Good evening. It is indeed a wonderful eve. It has been a glorious day of sabbath rest. I began the day wandering through the trails of appleton farms in hamilton/wenham/ipswich with our silver lab, stella. And hours later, I was fortunate enough to have my dearest join me for a sunset walk this afternoon along the same trails. This bench proved to be a welcome companion along the journey today. I am going to make it my goal to keep a list of all the books I have read this year, 2012. The first one on my list of completed reads is The Memory of Old Jack by Wendell Berry. An absolutely fantastic read about what life is like for Jack Beechum in the world of Port William, KY. A wonderful read and a reminder of how we might recapture a life of simplicity and one with great commitment to commitment itself.

I have been listening back to the refrain/hook of our advent hymn off the upcoming record (yet to be titled….both the song and the record). I absolutely love the way this song is coming together!!! the lyric of the refrain/hook:

he will come / he will come and save us / he will come / come and save us from our sins

I am super pleased with how our room mic, figure-eight technique was able to capture the nuances of the song in our rehearsals at cape cod. So very excited to lay down this song in the studio and have it heard by your lovely pair of ears.

Coming off of christmas and new years, I am reminded that we are still in a time of waiting…a time of advent. We await the glorious return of the One who came to save us from our sins. We await His return to bring full consummation and restoration to humanity and to creation.

Cheers to you and a blessed new year. I trust that you are excited and grateful for another day and another opportunity to extend love, make something beautiful, and taste the fullness of this gift called life.

a new record

Greetings! I am finishing up the final packing-of-the-car and heading to cape cod for a weekend with the boys. we begin writing the new record today! YES!! I have been sorting and sifting through hundreds of hymns over the past few months and have landed on some treasures. yes, the new record will be a full-length album, recorded to tape, and will feature old hymn texts to new melodies. Holding my breath. Here we go!

Gloria Patri is a Trinitarian doxology that has been a part of Christian liturgies for centuries. It is typically found near the back of a hymnal and is used in song and prayer. As the first re-write of September, I took this ancient text and aimed to make it a bit more singer-friendly. May you be blessed and may God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Ghost be praised both now and forevermore.
