the closing of a decade

December 29, 2009

it truly is hard to believe that two thousand and nine is coming to a close, marking the end of another decade. thanks to the grace of the good Lord, i have survived and lived close to two and a half of them (decades, that is). this year, i will hit the quarter century mark and i expect for everything to start aching and getting rusty. yikes.

the two thousand and singles will be missed? we had the 70’s, 80’s,  and 90’s. what in the world do we call these last 10 years? by now, we have used up all of the aaa batteries that we saved up for y2k and polished off the last of the water jugs that occupied our basements and cupboards. steve jobs is our hero, the economy is ‘failing,’ and facebook is here to stay–successfully enabling young and old alike to alert the world of every breath and movement of life. for example, ‘rachel is eating gluten-free chocolate chip cookies in her bed. full of crumbs. smile on my face.’ thanks for sharing, rachel. gold star for you.

good riddance to 2009 and hello 2010.

in all seriousness, i have spent some time in refection on the past 360-and-some-change days. this has been a tremendous year for me. i am grateful to all of the friends and family that have made this a rich and full season of life. your support and love is staggering…and i am overwhelmed by each of you. i thank God for you all. i anticipate the next year and decade with great excitement and hope. i look forward to sharing new songs and stories with you. cross my fingers, but i hope to play a house show, coffeeshop, church, club, radio station or bookstore near you! trying to put together a few short road trips for the next year.

blessings and love to each of you this coming year.

this has been a tremendously rich year and season of my life. the closing of this year

lucky star

December 19, 2009

what a beautiful day to be alive.
to ponder life; the highs and lows. the straight and narrow and the switchbacks. the people i meet on the hilltops and in the valleys. strangers. heroes. friends.
to momentarily stop and think about the gift of breath. my chest expands, returns back to a position of rest, and expands once again. what a wonderful gift-life. what a wonderful Giver who gives such good gifts.
what a beautiful day.
i watch my wife breathe so peacefully as she is asleep beside me. the greyhound bus beneath our feet swiftly carries us along to NYC. every now and again i catch a trace of her scent. it is a pleasant break from the crumbled up fast food bags that are scattered in the isle, the smell of artificial heat, and the smell of other people’s skin. people smell different based upon where they are from. true fact.
for the next two days we will live in the world of Central Park, Rockafella Center, Brooklyn and the Village with two of my favorite people. what a beautiful day to be alive. what a gift.
each day of life is a beautiful, precious gift–a beautiful day. some days, this is easier to spot than others. in all honesty, some days nothing seems beautiful, nothing seems right, nothing seems to have escaped the curse of brokenness. but slow down long enough and each of us will soon remember how much we have been given…how much joy that is afforded to us each day.

blessings on the way,

i have heard a few mixed down tracks and they are sounding great! i can’t wait to share the EP with old and new friends alike. it is really shaping up quite nicely. i hope to be able to book more dates in the fall and winter…some really nice listening venues that get cramped and sweaty really fast. in my estimate, those are the best. check the page titled DATES for upcoming shows and more info will be released about the EP as we get closer to the day.

blessings to you,

i phone and a 335

August 20, 2009

today we are tracking more electric guitar. after layering a couple of tracks on a 335, sam pulls this trick out of his velvet hat:

i phone ringtone + giga delay @ 65 BPM + a  gibson hollow body 335  = brilliant.  look for it on the album.

tracking more keys, electric and strings tonight.

day three

August 19, 2009

top of the morning to ya! starting another day off on the right foot with bongo java coffee. i have enjoyed the mystic brew the most. things are shaping up quite nicely in the studio. thank you for those who are following via email, phone, or twitter. yes i have officially tweeted.

we finished tracking acoustic this morning about 1 am, and its time to put the sprinkles on the cupcakes. keys and electric today. get ready for some sick rhodes, whirly, glocks and chimes….

receiving the good gifts of the day,

m@

hello and welcome!

the countdown has begun!!! sunday morning takes me to nashville, TN and to the magical world of red couch productions. owned by the ever-so-talented michael spooner, i will spend the week cranking out my very first EP on the red couch. do they really have a red couch? we shall see.

i am excited to team up again with sam gregg, beloved friend and respected musician. you would be wise to get familiar with this talented individual. turn around in the weeks and months to come and you will find yourself saying, “i remember the first time i stumbled upon sam gregg….” if nothing else, the ladies say that his eyes are like burning coals. ’tis true…’tis true! so get lost in his music or in his eyes-whatever suits your fancy-but either way, spend some time getting to know this guy.

anywho, i commit to posting stories and inspiring things along the way-pending i have internet access in the next week. so keep and eye out for updates, photos, and information in the coming weeks about the EP release, upcoming shows, etc. share the site with a friend, as i will gladly take any help i can get building some momentum for the release. familiarize yourself with the site and take a look around. let me know what you think. you can listen to some rough cuts  at my myspace page…..myspace.com/musicmattscott.

over and out.

blessings,
m@
